The Town of Wadesboro is seeking a new town manager. John Witherspoon, who served as town manager for the past nine years, retired on Friday.

“We are now beginning the process of finding an interim manager,” Mayor Bill Thacker said in a special meeting Friday afternoon.

June 29 was Witherspoon’s last day on the job. He also serves as finance officer for the town.

Tax Collector Phyllis Lowe was appointed interim finance officer after a brief closed session to discuss the matter. Water clerk Bebe Gaddy was also appointed to interim tax collector. Both appointments are until such time as the town hires a new town manager.

The Town Council will hold its next regular meeting July 9. A public hearing will be held July 16 to discuss a water project in Uptown Wadesboro.

Witherspoon was presented a plaque by Mayor Thacker in honor of his service to the town.
