The Town of Morven took the next step Monday in securing grants from the North Carolina Economic Development Center, Inc. and the Clean Water Management Trust Fund.

Morven received a $500,000 grant from the rural center and $1,247,000 from the trust fund on Dec. 10 and Oct. 14 respectively. The town will match $25,000.

The town will replace some water and sewer lines along with three sewer pump stations, project engineer Todd Steele said Jan. 6. Steele is a project engineer with Engineering Services in Garner.

The town affirmed in a resolution their water rates were 1.5 percent of the median household income in the 2000 U.S. Census.

The town council also tabled a resolution that would use a longevity pay scale to compensate employees.
