This week, crews with SRM, Inc., continued their ongoing work to renovate the Anson County Courthouse, by starting to replace the sidewalks surrounding the 100-year-old building.
The $1 million renovation project began last year, and is expected to wrap up later this year. SRM, Inc., are also in the process of replacing the courthouse’s windows and doors, and have already restored much of the building’s exterior.
In addition to the replacement of the sidewalks, security lights will also be added to the courthouse grounds, said Jeff Waisner, director of parks and recreation and buildings and facilities.
At the beginning of the week, workers began breaking up the old sidewalks and replacing them with new concrete. The sidewalk project will be done in phases, Waisner said, starting with the sides of the building and then continuing on to the replacement of the front courtyard around the Confederate soldier statue. The sidewalks at the gazebo on the courthouse grounds will also be replaced.
“It will be at least a month on the sidewalks,” said SRM superintendent Jeff Furr. “The courtyard will take a little bit longer.”
Waisner said that the courthouse’s new doors should be arriving within the next few weeks and the replacement of the windows is about 85 percent done.
Open House for new Parks & Rec offices
Renovations to the Anson County Parks & Recreation offices at Little Park in Wadesboro are complete, and the public is invited to get its first look at the new facilities during an open house on Wednesday, May 9, from 10-11 a.m.
