Anson County’s unemployment rate for the month of March decreased by 0.1 percent to 11.0 percent, according to statistics released Friday by the North Carolina Department of Commerce’s Labor and Economic Analysis Division.
Unemployment rates fell in 98 of North Carolina’s 100 counties in March, and increased in the remaining two counties. Unemployment rates declined in 85 counties, increased in 14 and, remained the same in one when compared to the same month last year.
According to the numbers released Friday, of Anson’s 10,874 workforce, 1,192 people received unemployment benefits in March.
Orange County had the state’s lowest unemployment rate in March at 6.0 percent, while Graham County had the highest unemployment rate at 18.5 percent.
Anson’s neighboring counties also experienced declines in their unemployment rates during the month of March. Richmond had a 0.9-percent decrease from March to February, with a rate of 12.7 percent, while Stanly’s unemployment dropped from 10.6 to 10.0 percent, and Union’s dropped from 8.9 to 8.2 percent.
