Earl James, 87, died Jan. 14, 2009 at Hospice Haven in Rockingham.

Funeral services werre held Friday at 2 p.m. at Harrington Funeral Home and Crematorywith the Rev. Al McCormick officiating. Visitation was at 1 p.m.

Burial followed at Richmond Memorial Park.

He was born Dec. 5, 1921 in Anson to the late Lonnie and Ennice Billingsley James.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and worked at Avondale Mills before he retired. He was a member of East Rockingham Congregational Holiness Church.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Daisy Mae Faulkner James; son, Roger James; and brothers, George, John, Hillary and Lonnie Jr.

He is survived by his daughters, Joann Cribbs of Norwood, Kay Aycoth of Rockingham and Nina Morrison of Rockingham; sons, Bobby James of Red Springs and Gary James of Hamlet; brothers, Robert James and Bill James, both of Hamlet; 14 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; and 10 great-great-grandchildren.

Harrington Funeral Home and Crematory is serving the family.
