Tourism group amasses balance of $68,636

The Anson County Tourism Development Authority received a report on the state of its budget Jan. 14.

The budget states the organization has spent $5,566.95 so far in fiscal year 2008/2009. Meanwhile, the organization has collected $9,577.74 in revenue and $666.36 in interest.

The organization has an overall balance of $68,636.

The budget lists the expenses incurred, all of which were labeled as marketing expenses.

n $500 was given to the Anson County Economic Development Corporation for a customer service workshop.

n $1,575 was given to Carolina Publishing Associates for the Carolina Heritage Guide.

n $1,853.51 was given to Marshall Bruney for website management.

n $614.32 was given to ICI Copies for flyers and cards to market the annual Discover Anson Bike Ride.

n $1,000 was given to the town of Wadesboro for advertising related to People Fest.

n $24.12 was given to Dave Smith as a travel reimbursement for his trip to Asheboro.

In March Anson Tourism Development Authority (TDA), members voted unanimously to give $2,000 to the Anson Historical Society for the Leavitt House renovation.

“What you do is a big part of (our mission),” Anson County Commissioner Chairwoman Anna Baucom told historian John Dunlap, president of the society.

His organization gained ownership of the Leavitt House in April last year. The building is being converted into a museum.
