Ansonville – Irene Smith McLendon, 86, passed away April 13, 2011 at her home.

Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Monday, April 18, in the Red Hill Baptist Church with Rev. Anthony Ledbetter officiating. Interment followed in Westview Memorial Park.

McLendon was born in Anson County on Aug. 30, 1924, a daughter of the late Harrison and Laura Kirby Smith. She was one of 14 children. McLendon was a devoted member of Red Hill Baptist Church.

She leaves behind to cherish her memory a loving and devoted husband of 72 years, Frank McLendon; one daughter, Virginia M. Bennett, widow of James L. Bennett, who resides in Baltimore, Md.; two grandchildren, Irene Bennett and Gennie Bennett; and great-grandchildren: Alizé, Isaiah, Crystal and Melanie.

She also leaves behind one brother-in-law, Rev. Harley Sturdivant; one sister-in-law, Mary T. Smith, and a host of nieces and nephews, as well as other family members and friends.

Leavitt Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
