The Lady Bearcats suffered tough losses to Marvin Ridge on Thursday evening, losing both their varsity and JV games.

Anson’s varsity team lost all three sets, with Marvin Ridge taking the sets 25-11, 25-11, and 25-10, respectively.

Coach Celeste Dutton was disappointed. “Our passes were off,” she said. “That was the biggest problem. Our passes were not well and we were not communicating.”

Dutton said that since Marvin Ridge hasn’t lost a conference game in five years, Anson can’t afford to make mistakes during games against them. “Our passes was really probably the worst passes we’ve had all season, in my opinion,” she said. “And this was a game that they couldn’t afford to not pass good.”

Co-coach Patty Livingston agreed, saying it was the “little errors” that hurt Anson’s performance.

JV

The girls lost both sets to Marvin Ridge, losing 25-8 and 25-13.

Grace Morgan (#1) was injured early in the JV game. “We could tell that we were missing her,” Dutton said. “I think that really hurt us in the JV game because we were missing that key player. Then again, after, the girls just didn’t accommodate from missing her, and they didn’t come together, unfortunately.”

Both Dutton and Livingston said that Morgan will hopefully be recovered by the next game.

The varsity team will face Forest Hills at Anson High School on Monday at 5 p.m. Both teams will play at Anson High School against Sun Valley on Tuesday, with JV playing at 4:30 p.m. and varsity at 6 p.m. They will play a third home game against Cuthbertson at 4:30 and 6 p.m. on Thursday.
