Anson High School’s varsity and junior varsity basketball teams were treated to a free end-of-year trip to the Charlotte Hornets’ matchup with the Detroit Pistons March 11 at Time Warner Cable Arena.

Twenty-three players, four managers and eight coaches and chaperones met at Anson High School, loaded up in transportation provided by Harvest Ministries Outreach Center and made the journey to Charlotte. Upon arrival, all guests received a free T-shirt compliments of the Charlotte Hornets players and staff.

The trip was a joint effort in honor of Anson County’s own Shaundaisa Smith and Lance Maurice “Big Face” Howard. Smith was an athlete at Anson High School, and the granddaughter of Anson County Sheriff Landric Reid. Many of her teammates and classmates enjoyed the trip in her honor.

Howard was the son of Gloria Howard, an Anson County native who has been instrumental in providing free trips for children and youth in Anson County including a recent skating trip for 75 Anson County children in honor of the Anson County Spelling Bee winners.

“This is truly a great blessing to these players,” said Steve Adams, lead pastor at Harvest Ministries Outreach Center in Wadesboro. “To honor the lives of special people this way is a great testimony to the impact they had on so many people. Anson County’s youth deserve opportunities like this, and we are just honored to be able to contribute in any way.”

Adams thanked Pastor Brad Humphries and First Fellowship Church in Charlotte, Gloria Howard, fellow Harvest Ministries pastor Tim Adams and the congregation of Harvest Ministries Outreach Center for their contributions to the trip.
