WADESBORO — The Anson junior varsity football team inched close to the .500 mark with a 16-6 win over Cuthbertson last Thursday.

The Bearcats improve to 3-4 on the season with the come-from-behind victory. The Cavaliers led the game 6-0 at halftime.

Valer Presslar and Jalen Gaddy were the offensive starts for Anson in the win. Presslar scored both of Anson’s touchdowns and Gaddy added both 2-point conversions.

Presslar’s first score came with 2:17 remaining in the third quarter and Gaddy’s 2-point conversion gave the Bearcats the lead for good.

Just 29 seconds after his first touchdown, Presslar found the end zone again and Gaddy once again tacked on the 2-point conversion to push Anson in front 16-6.

Anson’s defense was able to make the lead standup.

Anson JV coach Marshall Taylor thought his team grabbed some needed momentum in the second half.

“The guys made some good plays, and that was a big momentum swing, and that really gave our guys life,” Taylor said. “At that point, we took advantage of it and went out and we just kept making more plays off of it, and that turned out to be a big impact to the result of the game.”

This week

The Anson JV team will return to action when it plays host to Marvin Ridge 6:30 p.m. Thursday.

Taylor said the players started preparing for Marvin Ridge earlier this week, but didn’t plan on doing any special planning for the game.

“It’s just like any other game,” he said. “We’re just optimistic about our guys coming out here and making plays, and we’re just coming to practice and training for whatever our opponent’s going to throw at us.”

Although the Cavaliers started out ahead, they found themselves struggling to defend against the Bearcats by the third quarter.
