Wadesboro Police Chief Janie Schutz has accepted a new position as chief of Forest Grove, Oregon.
Forest Grove’s City Manager Michael Sykes made the announcement Monday and Schutz confirmed this today.
Her offer is conditional upon the results of a screening process and background investigation. Forest Grove is a town of 21,000 people as of the 2010 Census that lies 25 miles west of Portland.
“I believe Schutz has the talent and enthusiasm to make an outstanding police department even better,” Sykes said in a press release Monday.
“The Lord works in mysterious ways,” she said.
She has been chief since 2009. Scutz said the town is safer than when she began her job here and gave credit to her officers, saying she knew there was talent here from the beginning.
“I’m very proud of these guys,” she said. She praised improved reports, response times and investigations since she came on.
“It’s been an honor to serve as police chief,” she said. She has fell in love with Wadesboro and all of its people.
“I want to grow as a chief,” she said. In the course of her interview process with Forest Grove, she met town officials, officers at the department and citizens in a public forum.
“There is nothing that will be left untied,” she said. “The last thing I would do is leave [Major Thedis Spencer] and the department hanging.”
She said that she will probably start the job sometime in the second half of September.
