Wadesboro police are on the hunt for the alleged shooter in a Thursday night incident that sent one man to the hospital.
According to a news release from the Wadesboro Police Department, a 911 call was received at 9:15 p.m. Thursday night for shots fired in the Marshall Street area of town. When officers arrived, they found a group of people in the yard of 500 Marshall St., and an African-American male lying on the ground with an apparent gunshot wound.
The victim, identified as Hakeem Willoughby of East Short Plaza in Wadesboro, was transported to Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte. On Friday morning, Police Chief Janie Schutz said that Willoughby was “expected to be OK” and was scheduled to be released from the hospital.
“He was shot once; he had injuries in the wrist and groin area so apparently the bullet went through,” Schutz said. “Apparently, he may have been trying to intervene in a domestic violence situation between a man and woman.”
Police are on the lookout for the alleged shooter, Quashan Djuana McRae, 19, whose last known address was 500 Marshall St. in Wadesboro, where the shooting occurred. A warrant for McRae’s arrest has been issued, on charges of assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury and assault on a female.
Anyone with information on McRae’s whereabouts is encouraged to call the Wadesboro Police Department at 704-694-2167.
