Anson County’s unemployment rate for the month of July remained at 12.6 percent, according to statistics released Friday morning by the North Carolina Department of Commerce’s Labor and Economic Analysis Division.
“Rates either dropped or remained the same in most of North Carolina in July,” said N.C. Department of Commerce Deputy Secretary Dale Carroll. “Compared to the same time last year, nearly all of the state’s counties have a lower unemployment rate.”
Unemployment rates decreased in 47 of North Carolina’s 100 counties in July, increased in 26 and were unchanged in 27. When compared to the same month last year, unemployment rates declined in 94 counties, increased in four, and remained the same in two.
Anson’s 12.6-percent unemployment rate for July 2012 is 0.2 points higher than its 12.4 rate in July 2011.
Anson’s neighboring counties of Richmond and Stanly both saw slight decreases in unemployment in July, with Richmond’s June rate of 13.0 dropping down slightly to 12.7, and Stanly’s down from 10.2 to 10.1 percent. Union County’s unemployment increased from 8.6 percent in June to 8.7 percent in July.
The unemployment numbers for August will be released in late September.
