Carol Gibson, who was appointed to the Anson County Board of Education to represent District 7 last month, has completed her initial orientation. She will complete continuing education each year.
Lisa Davis, chair of the board, said she is a welcome addition. “We are extremely excited to fill the position and have Mrs. Gibson bring her knowledge and wisdom to the board,” Davis said.
Born in Anson County, Gibson attended Anson County schools for her elementary and secondary education before studying biology at Pfeiffer College (now Pfeiffer University). Her daughter, Carli, also graduated from Anson High School before attending North Carolina State University.
“Education is very important to me and I take this appointment very seriously; as a member of the BOE, I want the best education possible for ALL of our students in Anson County,” Gibson said via email.
Gibson has been employed at the Anson County Health Department for over 33 years. She first came into the department as an environmental health specialist, eventually becoming the environmental health programs coordinator. After 9/11, Gibson became the preparedness coordinator in preparation for any bioterrorism attacks in the county. She is currently serving as the interim health director.
Gibson is married to Carl Gibson, who owns Lacy’s, Inc., in downtown Wadesboro.
