WADESBORO — Young children filled the streets of downtown Wadesboro on April 16 for the annual Week of the Young Child Parade sponsored by the Anson County Partnership for Children.
This year’s theme was “The True Story of the 3 Little Pigs,” told from the perspective of the wolf, who declares his innocence. Approximately 450 children dressed as pigs and wolves, along with their teachers and parents, participated in the parade. The 2013 Champion for Children, Vancine Sturdivant, served as grand marshal and led the parade along with The Tarradiddle Players dressed as Wolf and the Pig Policeman, providing much entertainment for both spectators and participants.
Beth Rogers, Winnie Bennett and Alex Sewell served as judges for the parade. Prizes were awarded to Ansonville Elementary - Best Costumes, Classroom; Tina Maye’s Child Care – Best Costume, Individual; and Open Doors – Best Float. Thanks to all teachers and parents who worked hard to transform their students into characters from this fun-filled twist on the beloved “The Three Little Pigs” classic.
Following the parade, North Carolina Pre-K students from across the county enjoyed a performance of “The True Story of the 3 Little Pigs” by the Tarradiddle Players in the beautiful Ansonia Theatre. Laughter filled the auditorium as the performers shared the tale by trying the wolf in court and hearing his side of the story. A repeat performance was held in the evening for children and families in the community. The Partnership would like to thank the Anson County Arts Council for their collaboration in making this performance possible.
