This week, Representative Larry Kissell (NC-08) announced that $612,418 in federal and state funds were awarded to the Anson County Airport for the rehabilitation and improvement of the apron and runway approaches.
The funds will be used for projects to replace asphalt and improve infrastructure at the facility, as well as make improvements to provide a more clear flight path for aircraft. The North Carolina Division of Aviation awarded state funds totaling $451,700, and $160,718 in federal funding provided by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).
“This funding is a great example of government working together at all levels to help improve infrastructure and transportation resources in the 8th District and throughout North Carolina,” said Kissell. “These funds will help to improve and maintain the airport and continue to provide service to folks in Anson County and across our region. Regional flight ability is a vital aspect of economic development and a highlight of what our district has to offer in so many of our counties, and I’m glad to have worked to help secure this important funding.”
These capital improvement projects are funded in part at the federal level through the FAA’s block grant program, which awarded more than $22 million in funding to the N.C. Division of Aviation for airports throughout the state.
