An appreciation banquet for County Commissioner and Lilesville resident Vancine Sturdivant held Friday night drew approximately 125 people, filling the Lockhart-Taylor Center with party-goers.
The banquet included speakers, dinner, and selections from several guest speakers, as well a time designated for remarks and gifts to be given to Sturdivant. Many attendees told anecdotes from times they volunteered with Sturdivant.
People from multiple counties, including Rep. Mark Brody, turned up for the event. State Trooper Landric Reid provided a history of Sturdivant, discussing her friends and extended family, as well as her many accomplishments. Sturdivant, recently named the 2013 Champion for Children by the Anson County Partnership for Children, is also the Anson County Democratic Party Chair, the Faith-Based Center of Hope CEO, the coordinator of the local group of Toys for Tots, and more.
Sturdivant was presented with the money received from the $10 entrance ticket sales, which totaled approximately $1,250, money taken during a love offering, and individual remarks and tokens of appreciation. One such gift included a vocal performance from her granddaughter singing “I’ll Give Him My Heart.”
Sturdivant later said that she planned to use the money she made at the banquet to help fund a community center for citizens in Anson, Richmond and Union counties.
