The Anson Ag Expo and Fair attracted crowds of people of all ages Sept. 21 and 22 with educational exhibits, contests, animal showing, bake-offs, a scavenger hunt, the lumberjack competition, a kiddie tractor pull, snacks from vendors, and more.
The kiddie tractor pull attracted parents, siblings, and friends to cheer on their smaller 30-to 70-pound friends at the Kiddie Tractor Pull. The competition was tight but ultimately nine winners emerged in the top three places in the weight groups. In the 30-to 44-pound group, Trent Trexler took first place with a time of six seconds; Huntley Bowers was second and Jesse Wright was third. In the 49- to 58-pound group, Luke Thomas was first with a time of 6:53; Andrew Wright was second and Tripp Trexler took third. In the 60- to 70-pound group Eli Campbell was first with a time of 7:10; Josie Beverly took second and Levi Thomas was third.
Other event winners included Trent Trexler, the winner of the Youth Scavenger Hunt, who won a bicycle. The Local Food Bakeoff winner was Peggy Pinkston; Mallory Martin took second place and Melanie Hartung was third. Two scarecrow contest entries won: Regan Tyner’s in the youth contest and Susan Toe’s in the adult contest.
The Creative Squash Challenge winners for the 6-and-under group were Aidan Dentsey with first place, Marissa Tolson with second and Andrew Martin in third. The 7- to 12-year-old group boasted winners Riley Jones in first, Levi Thomas in second and Katie Edwards in third.
Janine Rywak, Anson County Cooperative Extension director, was pleased with the fair. “We wound up with 380 things entered into the fair,” she said. “There were 26 kids in the kiddie tractor pull and 59 in the scavenger hunt. We had more participation this year than last year, and we paid out more in premiums.”
