Ahead of this year’s presidential election, the Anson County Democratic Party has opened its headquarters at 204 E. Wade St. in uptown Wadesboro.

The office will remain open until the general election Nov. 6, Democratic Party Chair Vancine Sturdivant said. Office hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday.

“We are doing registration drives and we ask people to please come out, register and volunteer,” Sturdivant said. “We need volunteers to do canvassing, make phone calls, work at the polls, whatever they can do.”

Democratic Party volunteer Minister Christine Hall stressed the importance of everyone registering to vote. “You have the right to vote, and you should utilize that right,” she said.

Sturdivant pointed out that it is important to get Democrats back in office this election year. “We need people that care about our citizens,” she said. “We are all not a part of that 47 percent [Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney talked about]. President Obama is a president for everyone.”

In addition to its daily office hours, the Democratic Party will have a presence at People Fest in Wadesboro on Saturday, and also held registration drives in Morven and Polkton over the weekend.

Max Weiche, a field organizer for Anson County for President Barack Obama’s campaign, is also maintaining a presence at the Anson County Democratic Party office. Interested individuals can pick up campaign signs and stickers at the office, and of course, get information on registering to vote.
