Burnsville Recreation & Learning Center‘s first Official Charity Ride was successful, according to Stanly Community College Intern student Minda Slack. God’s Spirit was definitely present as more than 35 bikers, community supporters and BRLC volunteers participated in this event. All bikers had a friendship bracelet placed on their wrist, which they wore during the celebration. The bracelet identified them as being continually connected with the BRLC even if they are not at the BRLC location.

Pastors from the following ministries — Hopewell First U.M Church, Fountain Hill U.M Church and Rev. Ronnie Sides of Albemarle — provided a moment of inspiration to all that attended the opening ceremony. Volunteers Joe Thomas and Steven Flake assisted in the opening ceremony as well.

Local bikers Mitchell Liles, Jewel Brewer, Nelson Jackson and Bobby Sturdivant provided instruction to all participating bikers before the ride began. The ride started from the Burnsville Fire Department escorted by the Anson County Sheriff’s Officer. The bikers traveled through Oakboro, Albemarle, Norwood, Ansonville and Wadesboro, and back to the BRLC. A light breakfast consisted of country ham biscuits, sausage biscuits and danishes of different sorts, and beverages were provided for a small donation. Food items were prepared and served by Mary Hammond, Lucy Smith and Vanessa Smith. Food was donated by local supporters and BRLC volunteers.

The Charity Ride was coordinated with the assistance of local bikers of the Burnsville Community, Anson County Sheriff’s Department, Stanly Community College student Minda Slack and BRLC volunteers. Slack is an intern student attending Stanly Community College. She is looking to graduate in May of 2013 with an Associate Degree in the human service field. When the bikers returned to the BRLC, lunch was prepared for all guests as well as other activities and entertainment. This organization gives special thanks to all supporters. When you help us, we can help others. Without the efforts of volunteers, the community and financial supporters this organization could not continue.

The BRLC provides programs to families and individuals throughout Anson, Union and Stanly counties. These programs are to aids those that find themselves in short time crisis and need help with food, computer skills, Job Link, after school care and others services.
