Maresa Phillips will assume the position of principal at Lilesville Elementary School on July 1.
Phillips has been with Anson County Schools for 25 of her 26 years long career in education.
She did her student teaching at Morven Elementary School, taught at Ansonville Elementary School, as well as Central Elementary (now Wadesboro Primary).
Phillips will complete the Sandhills Leadership Academy Executive Intern program June 29, having served as an intern to principals at Anson High School, Anson Early College and East Rockingham Elementary School.
“It is a pleasure and honor to become a member of the Lilesville Elementary School Community,” she said in an email. “One of the most important aspects of my work as [principal] will be building solid relationships with students, families, and staff. The entire school community has a stake in the students’ learning process and it’s important the school fosters those relationships.”
She describes herself as in an information gathering stage and wants to give every student the opportunity to meet their full potential.
“Another initiative will be to impart leadership that will facilitate a school environment to provide differentiated instruction to meet the needs of each student to the best of our ability,” she said.
She received a bachelor’s degree in education from Pembroke State University and a master’s in education with a focus in reading from Grand Canyon University.
A Wadesboro resident, her parents are Reese Dutton and the late Margaret Dutton, each of whom worked for Anson County Schools as well. She attends First Baptist Church, Lee Avenue, and has two children and one grandchild.
