WADESBORO — Approximately 1,100 bike riders will descend on uptown Wadesboro on Oct. 3.
Wadesboro has been selected as a rest stop on the 400- to 500-mile long “Mountains to the Sea” bike ride that starts in the mountains at Brevard on Sept. 29 and ends at Carolina Beach on Oct. 6. Incoming riders will be spread out over a two- to three-hour time period with leaders arriving before 10 a.m., followed by the main group and then the slower riders. Over 1,000 riders have signed up for this event, including participants from 35 states and two Canadian provinces. The average age of registered participants is 56 years old but the age range is from an incredible 5 years to an amazing 84 years.
Cycle NC has chosen Wadesboro as a rest stop this year. The riders will be looking for a pit stop (provided by Cycle NC), a short break from riding, some food and drink and a friendly welcome from Anson County. If you can come out and mingle with the riders, it’d be a rewarding experience for all.
Volunteers are needed to help with information, handing out food and drinks, and being friendly (our specialty in Anson County). Groups of six to 10 volunteers at any one time between the hours of 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. (If you’d like to get a group together to volunteer, please let the Chamber know.)
The official rest stop has been designated as the Town Square at the corner of Wade and Greene streets. The town of Wadesboro will be setting up benches and tables. Food and drinks will be provided by Cycle NC but food will also be available for sale from local non-profit groups. Even though the Town Square is the official rest stop, riders will wander all over Uptown.
