Anson County’s unemployment rate for the month of February was 11.6 percent, down 1.2 percent from January’s 12.8-percent rate. North Carolina’s county unemployment rates were released Wednesday morning by the North Carolina Department of Commerce - Labor and Economic Analysis Division.
For the month of February, 1,274 of Anson’s 10,938-strong workforce received unemployment benefits.
Unemployment was down in 99 of North Carolina’s 100 counties in February, and all 14 metro areas experienced rate decreases. Graham County had the highest unemployment rate at 20.2 percent, while Orange County had the lowest at 5.9. Among metro areas, Rocky Mount had the highest unemployment, 13.2 percent and Durham-Chapel Hill at 7.0 percent had the lowest. The February statewide rate was 9.5 percent.
All of Anson’s neighboring counties experienced decreased unemployment rates in February. Richmond’s unemployment was down from 13.6 to 12.9 percent, Stanly County dropped from 10.1 percent to 9.4, and Union County’s rate of 7.9 percent was down from 8.6 percent last month.
The next unemployment report will come on April 19, when the state numbers for march are released.
