Anson County’s unemployment rate for March dropped to 10.9 percent, down 0.6 percent from the February rate.
The county-by-county numbers were released Wednesday by the North Carolina Department of Commerce - Labor and Economic Analysis Division.
Unemployment decreased in 99 of North Carolina’s counties in March, and remained the same in one. All 14 of the state’s metro areas also experienced a decline in unemployment for the month of March.
Graham County had the highest unemployment rate at 17.8 percent while Orange County had the lowest at 5.6 percent.
Anson’s neighboring counties also all experienced unemployment declines in March. Richmond County’s rate of 12 percent was down 0.8 percent from February, Stanly’s unemployment dropped 0.7 percent to 8.8, and Union’s rate of 7.4 percent was down 0.5 percent from the previous report.
Anson’s 10.9-percent employment ranks 72nd out of the state’s 100 counties.
The number of workers employed statewide (not seasonally adjusted) increased in March by 17,248 to 4,273,673, while those unemployed fell 26,855 to 419,546. Since March 2012, the number of workers employed statewide increased 32,155, while those unemployed decreased 22,262.
For Anson, the number of people claiming unemployment benefits for March 2013 was 1,187, out of the county’s 10,910 labor force.
The next unemployment numbers will be announced on May 17, when the state’s report for April will be announced.
