POLKTON — The Anson County Sheriff’s Office, the State Bureau of Investigation (SBI) and the Polkton Police Department are investigating the Sept. 28 stabbing death of an Anson County prison inmate.
During an altercation between several inmates at Lanesboro Correction Institution in Polkton, one inmate was stabbed and was later pronounced dead at the Anson Community Hospital. The deceased inmate was identified as Wesley Eugene Turner, 35, who had been in prison since 1996 on charges that included second-degree murder.
Another inmate was injured, and was treated for his injury at CMC in Charlotte. Neither his name nor condition have been released.
Anson County Sheriff Tommy Allen said Monday that officers were called to Lanesboro at 12:18 p.m. on Friday. When they arrived, officers found one inmate dead, and another that had been stabbed. Investigators, who are working with the Department of Public Safety Division of Adult Corrections officers (formerly called the Department of Corrections), identified several inmates in the assault.
Sheriff Allen said that his officers are working with the SBI and other agencies as the investigation continues.
Lanesboro is a high security state prison with 1,000 beds for high-risk inmates.
