Almost a week after a crime spree that started in Mecklenburg County and ended in Anson County, a third and final suspect has been arrested.
Anson County Sheriff Tommy Allen said the violence began when a victim’s car was stolen during a home invasion on the night of May 7 in Mecklenburg County. Later, the Stanly County Sheriff’s Department responded to a call about a home invasion and assault in Cabarrus County around 3 a.m. on Wednesday, during which the stolen car was seen but no suspects were found, according to WCNC in Charlotte.
A few hours later, at about 7 a.m. on Wednesday, a victim was carjacked in the Midland area. Later, a vehicle matching the description was seen on Highway 24/27 but when Stanly County Deputies began a traffic stop the vehicle fled with two occupants. A deputy later spotted a man in an open field south of Albemarle near Stoney Gap Road and the Stanly County Fairgrounds but the man fired a handgun and stole a vehicle. He exchanged fire with a second deputy before fleeing south on Highway 52, according to WCNC.
During the chase, the suspect crashed inside the Anson County line on Highway 52. Jarvis Terez Marsh, 30, was taken into custody and transported to Stanly County Hospital for treatment for a gunshot wound. He is being held on parole violations but other charges are pending, according to WCNC.
The second suspect was last seen in the area of Stony Gap Road and Highway 52 South. Sheriff Allen said there were several possible sightings of the man in the area around Anson Middle School last Wednesday, which caused the school to go on lockdown.
The Anson County Sheriff’s Department placed Anson Middle School on lockdown as a precautionary measure. No other schools were affected.
The man was arrested in the Morven area by Anson County Sheriff’s Deputies on Monday morning. He was identified as Robert Lamarr Smith, 23, of Morven. He was arrested on two warrants for first degree kidnapping, according to WCNC.
A third suspect was arrested Tuesday morning, Sheriff Allen said. This individual was identified as Edward Hudson of Morven. “He was part of this group that started the home invasion,” Allen said. “They were all three from the Morven area.”
Sheriff Allen said the three individuals were arrested by Mecklenburg and Cabarrus County law enforcement officials and that to his knowledge, these are the only three arrests that will be made.
