Two South Piedmont Community College students were among 10 from across the state who received a N.C. Community College Foundation Scholarship for Health Careers for the 2012-2013 academic year.
Nikki Jackson, 23, of Monroe, and Jeremy Pitt, 33, of Marshville, both received the scholarship, which pays up to $500 per semester.
SPCC was the only college with more than one winner.
The North Carolina Community College Foundation Scholarships for Health Careers were created to assist students interested in attaining associate degrees in fields of high demand in the health-care profession. The scholarships are available to full-time students with a cumulative GPA of 3.0 enrolled in the second year of an Allied Health program of high demand at a community college.
The recipients are selected by a committee of N.C. community college representatives. The committee considers financial need, merit and personal commitment to the health-care profession when making the selections.
The North Carolina Community Colleges Foundation, a nonprofit organization dedicated to advancing the work of the North Carolina Community College System and its 58 institutions, has endowed the scholarships with funds contributed to the capital campaign by a coalition of health industry partners.
