Anson County’s Toys for Tots kick-off on Oct. 4 drew more than a dozen representatives from various business organizations.

Vancine Sturdivant, Anson County Toys for Tots coordinator and representative for the Faith-Based Center of Hope, led the event.

Participants were offered refreshments as they listened to Sturdivant outline the goals for the season. The local group has already been awarded $7,000 for toys, according to Sturdivant.

Several business and organization representatives turned up for the event, including Ansonville Mayor Lyndell Ingram Sr., Wadesboro Interim Police Chief Thedis Spencer, Debra Fundenburk and Henry Pratt of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church, and several others.

Participants were able to sign up to purchase Toys for Tots shirts. The group is also preparing letters requesting donations to go to various businesses and organizations.

Applications for toys are available at the Ansonville Town Hall, Wadesboro Police Department, Grace Senior Center and Child Support Office at the Department of Social Services.

The nonprofit Toys for Tots states its goal on its website simply: “The primary goal of Toys for Tots is to deliver, through a new toy at Christmas, a message of hope to less fortunate youngsters that will assist them in becoming responsible, productive, patriotic citizens.”
