Two young men were arrested immediately after an armed robbery in the early morning hours of Monday morning, Aug. 24.

At 3:22 a.m., Mark Anthony Cox of Wadesboro, night manager of the Diamond Internet Cafe in Wadesboro, was locking up for the night and started walking across the street to where he was staying at the Anson Inn when he noticed two black males behind him.

At that point, Wadesboro Police Chief Janie Schutz said that Cox took off running and the two men chased him. Cox tripped and fell in the Anson Inn parking lot, and one of the men, 20-year-old Carson Love of Morven, pulled out a handgun and demanded that Cox give him what he had. Cox stated that he only had five cell phones and $5, which he handed over to Love.

Love and the other suspect, Jamarcus Dequon Sellers, 16, also of Morven, ran away at that point and Cox called the police.

When Officer Kyle Beam arrived on the scene a few minutes later, after talking with Cox, he went around to the back side of the Anson Inn on Holly Street and found two men matching Cox's description of the suspects.

"He took them both at gunpoint," Chief Schutz said. "He performed the correct police procedure and just did everything correctly, drawing his weapon when he needed to and giving the proper commands. We're so glad the men complied."

Neither of the men had the weapon on them when they were arrested but it was found within 25 feet of where the suspects were apprehended.

When Officer Steven Kelly arrived, both Love and Sellers were arrested. Both were charged with armed robbery and Love was also charged with carrying a concealed weapon. Love is being held in the Anson County Jail under a $110,000 bond. Sellers is in the Anson County Jail under a $100,000 bond.

"I want the public to know how lucky they are to have officers who respond like this," Chief Schutz said. "They go in where others would turn around and run. They did an excellent job."
