The band was a cross-up but the concert was straight up.

Cross Up Blues Band performed at Summer Jam Friday on West Wade Street, between Washington and Lee streets.

The weather was still warm as the sun slowly set behind the stage. The crowd spread out, mostly in lawn chairs or blankets along the sidewalks or on the steps in front of the Plank Road Realty offices.

Uptown Wadesboro sold drinks and popcorn. A face-painting booth was also available.

After a few sound checks and riffs on their instruments, the band began at 7:30. One of the songs opening their set was "Stand By Me."

"It's a good crowd," said event organizer Carly Little. She had help from Misty Harris, Anson County's director of economic development.

While there were dozens present early, Little expected more to show up as the evening wore on and the heat let up.

She said set-up began around 5 p.m. and she hoped to leave at 11 p.m.

"I'm glad people have supported it," she said. She wanted to thank everyone who has helped make the concerts possible.

The concert was the last Summer Jam of the year.
