A Wadesboro man has been cleared of wrongdoing by the District Attorney’s office in a stabbing incident July 14.

Prince McBride, 48, of N.C. 109 N. in Wadesboro, died of a stab wound at Anson Community Hospital after an altercation at 613 Ballard St. According to a statement from the Wadesboro Police Department, McBride and Larry Junior Polk, of 709 Salisbury St., forced their way into the home of Dexter Little after an altercation outside and Little’s retreat into his home. Little stabbed McBride and shortly thereafter, he died.

The District Attorney’s office has concluded that McBride and Polk made illegal entry into his home. “Due to these facts, the death of Prince McBride is being labeled as justifiable due to the fact that Mr. Little had a right to defend himself inside his own home,” the statement said.

On July 19, the WPD arrested Polk, 47, and charged him with two counts of assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill and one count of first degree burglary. He was placed in the Anson County Jail under a $350,000 secure bond.

At approximately 9:07 p.m. July 14, officers responded to a 911 hang-up call and a disturbance was heard in the background. Officers found many people in the street and McBride bleeding profusely from an abdominal wound.

The two officers called for an ambulance and while one initiated first aid, the other took Little into custody. Little was holding a knife in his hand and standing on the porch.

Investigators with the WPD worked with the State Bureau of Investigation. Little was taken to ACH and was released. WPD Chief Janie Schutz said his wounds were not serious.

She also praised the conduct of the two officers who responded to the scene.
