Ruth Coley Griggs, 86, died Dec. 4, 2009, at Lillie Bennett Nursing Center.

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Monday at Sandy Plains United Methodist Church with the Rev. Larry King officiating. Interment followed at the church cemetery. The family greeted friends at the church on Monday at 10 a.m.

She was born in Chesterfield County, S.C., June 21, 1923, to the late William Henry and Ila Boswell Coley. She was retired from West Knitting Mills and had worked at several knitting mills in Stanly County. She was married to the late Roy Griggs and their only son, Leonard Alvis Griggs, preceded them both in death.

Survivors include one granddaughter; one great-grandson; and one half-brother, Eddie Hedrick of Albemarle.
