A longtime resident of New Jersey, where he resided with his wife of 51 years, Robert worked for the United States Postal Service as a postal police officer for many years before his retirement.
He also served in the United States Army during the Korean War.
Originally from Wadesboro, he was a son to the late Timothy Bennett and Rosa Campbell; a loving husband to Bernice (Lindsey) Bennett Bennett; and adored father to sons, Robert E. Bennett Jr., Ph.D., and Mark E. Bennett; loving brother to Rosetta Kendell, Dorothy Little, Jesse Bennett and Bettie Chambers; and is survived by a host of family members and close friends.
The funeral service took place on Oct. 21 at Salem Baptist Church and burial at George Washington Memorial Park in Paramus, N.J.
