Margaret Irene Carter Sikes, 90, died Aug. 13 at Carillon Assisted Living in Monroe.

Funeral services were held at noon Wednesday in Hopewell United Methodist Church with the Rev. Paul McClure officiating. Interment followed in the church cemetery.

She was born June 28, 1922 in Union County. She was the daughter of the late Hall C. and Vera Carter of Mineral Springs. She taught for Kannapolis City Schools, Anson County Schools and Southview Academy before retiring.

Surviving are her children Jane (Jim) McKee, John, Russell (Janis), Bob, Bruce (Betsy), Gary (Kelly), and David (Michelle); and her brother and sisters, J. D. Carter of Mint Hill, Kathleen Horton of Mineral Springs, Anne Crump of Monroe and Edna Bunn of Greensboro.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Carson Bruce Sikes; her sister, Inez Phillips; and one grandchild, Eve Tiger.
