Anson County Sheriff’s Deputies are investigating an armed robbery that occurred at 1:23 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 27, in Ansonville.

Officers were called to a house currently being remodeled where a contractor and real-estate agent told them a black male entered the residence displaying a handgun and ordered them on the floor and took their wallets, car keys and cell phones. The suspect fired a shot from a handgun as he was telling them to lie down on the floor. No one was injured. The suspect fled on foot from the area. The sheriff did not identify the robbery victims other than to say they were a real-estate agent from Charlotte and a contractor from Monroe.

“We believe this was a crime of opportunity. This house had been undergoing some work all week," Sheriff Tommy Allen said. "The real-estate agent had just stopped by to get some pictures. The suspect took advantage of the situation. I suspect he is going to be a local person or at least have local connections. This house was located off Godfrey Avenue, a residential area, not on a main road. A stranger would be lost there.”

The suspect was described as a black male, approximately 5 feet, 6 inches tall and slender framed. Anyone with information regarding this suspect should call the Anson County Sheriff’s Office at 704-694-4188 or they may call the Sheriff’s Crime and Drug Hotline at 704-695-3111.

A reward is being offered in this incident.
