The boys’ and girls’ basketball teams at Anson Middle School both played at home on Nov. 29, with the girls losing their match 21-29 and the boys winning theirs, 47-24.
The girls game started well, with the Cats scoring first. The Rockets quickly caught up, passing them early into the first quarter. By the end of the quarter, the score was 5-12. During the second quarter the Cats scored multiple times, bringing the score to an even 14-14 by the end of the second quarter. The third quarter started strong but left the Cats down 17-21. Although they were able to gain a few more points, the Rockets quickly pulled ahead, ending the game 21-29.
The boy’s game started strongly with the Cats scoring twice. They held a strong defense during the first quarter while pulling ahead, ending the first quarter in a close 18-14. They quickly pulled even further ahead in the beginning of the second quarter, pulling to 27-16 within minutes and ending the quarter 37-21. The Cats continued to pull ahead, both scoring and maintaining a defense strong enough to end the game with a decisive win 47-24.
Audiences at both games were treated to a great halftime show featuring the step team and the cheerleaders, who kept the energy up consistently throughout the game, cheering the Cats on the whole time. The step team left the audience energized and laughing, ready for the second half of the game.
