The Anson High Bearcats fought through a tough game Friday night, but ultimately lost to the Richmond Raiders by a final score of 56-27.
Even though the Bearcats were down 21-0 early in the second quarter, they refused to give up and fought back to score their first touchdown of the game with 6:37 remaining in the first half. Unfortunately for Anson, Richmond fought right back with another touchdown, making the score 28-7 at halftime.
Refusing to give up, Chris Harris scored the Bearcats’ second touchdown of the game, chipping away at the Raiders’ now 35-13 lead.
Just when the hometown crowd was getting riled up, the Raiders scored again, lengthening their lead to 45-13.
Again hanging tough against a worthy opponent, Jakeev Robinson powered back and brought the Bearcats back within striking distance, 42-20.
But just when the Bearcats scored, the Raiders answered with another seven points, bringing the score to 49-20, and dashing Anson’s hopes for a comeback with just 10 minutes left to play.
The Bearcats still played hard, however, scoring another touchdown with a little more than five minutes left in the game to bring the score to 49-27.
The home team gave it their all during the closing minutes, but after a fumble and then a recovery for a touchdown by Richmond, the game ended with a final score of 56-27.
The Bearcats are next in action against Weddington for Homecoming on Oct. 11 at 7:30 p.m.
