The Bearcats lost a tough home game to the Chesterfield Golden Rams on Friday night, 28-13.

The game had a slow beginning, with neither team scoring until Jekev Robinson (#25, a senior) made a touchdown with about 1:32 left in the first quarter. Manuel Alonso (#11, a junior) made the PAT, bringing the score to 7-0.

The Bearcats fell behind in the second quarter, earning no points to the Rams’ 13, making the score 13-7 by halftime. Neither team scored in the third quarter, but the Rams scored 15 points to the Bearcats’ 6 in the final quarter. The Bearcats’ touchdown in the final quarter was made by Chris Harris (#88, a junior). Alex Wanko (#98, a senior) attempted a kick point but it was no good, bringing the final score to 28-13.

The halftime show was performed by the Anson High School band, which played “Surf’s Up” inspired by the Beach Boys. As the band and color guard performed, superintendent Michael Freeman led the way as primary and elementary school students, their parents and their teachers walked the entire track in school groups, waving signs identifying their schools.

The Bearcats will play against Purnell Swett in an away game on Sept. 20. Their next home game will be on Sept. 27 versus Richmond at 7:30 p.m.
