Soccer

The high school soccer team played its last game of the season on Thursday, losing to Marvin Ridge 9-0.

The team also lost a home conference game to Cuthbertson 9-0 last Tuesday on their senior night.

Despite the team’s losing streak, coach Brittany Raines said the team has been steadily improving. “I’m excited for next season,” she said. “We’re going to keep going with it.”

Mallary Taylor plays in the team’s goal box and calls out encouragement to her team throughout the game. She will graduate this spring, and is adjusting to not being on the team next year. “I feel like I should be excited for next year,” she said. “We made a lot of improvement this year, because we started with a really young team.”

Taylor will attend Wingate University, though she doesn’t plan to play on the soccer team so that she can focus on her grades as she pursues a degree in education.

Raines said that during a recent game against Piedmont, a referee noticed the team’s good qualities. “The ref paid us a compliment and said that Anson has some of the most sportsmanship, determination and drive,” she said.
