Anson County implements Child Passenger Safety Diversion Program
WADESBORO — Safe Kids Anson County and the Office of the District Attorney for Anson County will implement a Child Passenger Safety Diversion Program beginning Oct. 1.
This program allows violators of the N.C. Child Passenger Safety Law (G.S. 20-137.1) the chance to have their safety seats properly installed and their charge dismissed. The Anson County’s District Attorney’s Office recommends that the caregiver complete this class to produce satisfactory proof that violation has been corrected. During the class, Certified Child Passenger Safety Technicians teach caregivers how to install a child’s car seat and observes the caregiver installing a seat in the vehicle.
“The District Attorney’s Office is proud to partner with Safe Kids Anson and our law enforcement agencies to promote child safety in Anson County,” said Reece Saunders, district attorney. “These classes will help parents understand the proper ways to install child safety seats and help keep Anson County’s children safer.”
Classes will be held on the second Thursday of each month from 2-4 p.m. at the Anson County Partnership for Children, 207 S. Greene St., Wadesboro. Advance registration is required for the class. The district attorney has the authority to determine whether or not dismissal is appropriate in each case.
“Correctly used child safety seats can reduce the risk of death by as much as 71 percent,” said Kim Wilson, Safe Kids coordinator, Anson County Partnership for Children. “We want all parents to make sure their car seats are installed correctly and that the whole family is buckled up every time on every ride.”
For parents who are having trouble installing their child’s car seat or wanting to make sure it’s installed correctly, Safe Kids Anson offers a Permanent Checking Station at the Anson County Partnership for Children by appointment on every Thursday. Participation in the Permanent Checking Station offers drivers the chance to receive assistance and guidance from certified car seat technicians regarding proper installation of their child safety and booster seats.
