RALEIGH — David Mitchell, a veteran corrections manager, has been named as the new administrator at Lanesboro Correctional Institution in Polkton.
“I'm confident that David Mitchell's strong management skills, experience and integrity make him the right person to lead us forward at Lanesboro,” said W. David Guice, commissioner of Adult Correction and Juvenile Justice.
Mitchell most recently served as the operations manager for prisons in the state's western region. Prior to that, he was the superintendent at Mountain View Correctional Institution in Spruce Pine.
His corrections career began in 1988 at Caldwell Correctional Center. He served as the state's monitor at Mountain View CI while it was being built and operated by a private corrections company. He has also worked as an assistant superintendent at Western Youth Institution in Morganton and at Rutherford Correctional Center in Spindale.
He is a native of Lenoir, a U.S. Navy veteran and a graduate of Western Piedmont Community College and Gardner Webb University.
Lanesboro Correctional Institution opened in 2004. It has a staff of about 510 employees and houses approximately 1,500 inmates in close and medium custody.
