Staff report

Anson County has declared a state of emergency ahead of Hurricane Irma.

Anna Baucom, chairwoman of the Anson County Board of Commissioners, signed the proclamation at 5 p.m. Friday, according a document sent to the Anson Record.

The declaration is for the non-incorporated areas of Anson County , Denise Cannon, clerk to the board, said in an email.

“Although the storm has turned westward, we still could get tropical-force winds and up to four inches of rain,” she said. “There is a chance that Hurricane Irma could take a turn back to the east.”

Cannon added that the town of Wadesboro has also declared a state of emergency.
