A Polkton resident has harvested two of the largest beets he’s ever grown.

Thomas Cureton weighed the beets and they came in at two pounds, one ounce and one pound, eight ounces.

“My wife (Lynda) canned three pints of pickled beets from those two beets, plus had plenty left over for fresh, cooked beets to eat,” Cureton said via email. “Surprisingly, these beets seemed to be a little sweeter than the regular-size beets normally gathered from the garden.”
