Morven Elementary School Martin Luther King Jr. essay winners honored


For the Record Morven Las Amigas and HOLLA! recognized the Morven Elementary School winners of the Martin Luther King Jr. essay contest on Feb. 21. The awards and a monetary donation were presented by Las Amigas member Johnie Pettiford. The winners, from left, were: Jaleen Ross in third place, Jacqueline Cherry in second place and A’Ryah Willoughby in first place. Principal Dionnya Pratt and teacher Ernestine Gaddy were also present. Las Amigas is a nonprofit organization, which provides guidance for constructive work in educational and civic activities. The organization strives to increase the cultural awareness and understanding of its members through sponsored activities.
