A Wadesboro woman has been arrested and charged with child abuse after her two children were found walking along a road south of Wadesboro.

Anson County Sheriff Tommy Allen reported on Monday that deputies were called to a rural area near Wadesboro on July 15. At around 1:15 p.m., Pee Dee Electric employees found two small children walking naked off Gulledge Road, approximately seven miles south of Wadesboro. The children — a boy, 2, and a girl, 3 — were walking down the road and asked the men for food, Sheriff Allen said. The Pee Dee Electric personnel immediately used shirts to cover the children and called 911.

When Sheriff's Deputies arrived the children were taken to a local volunteer fire department where they were given food, water and clothing from a volunteer. Deputies went to a residence in the area but could not locate any relatives. Anson County Department of Social Services was called to the scene and took custody of the children.

The mother was later located by Sheriff's Deputies and arrested. She has been identified as Marcilla Kay Hudson, 22, of Wadesboro. Hudson was charged with two counts each of child abuse and contributing to the delinquency of a minor. She was placed in the Anson County Jail under a $2,000 bond, but later posted bond and was released.

DSS will maintain custody until a hearing is held to decide where the children will be placed, the sheriff said.
