SPCC to hold commencement exercises Monday

May 10, 2014

South Piedmont Community College will hold commencement exercises for the class of 2014 on May 12. Two ceremonies will take place at the Union County Agricultural & Conference Center — one at 11 a.m. and another at 3 p.m. — honoring candidates for graduation from the School of Allied Health, the School of Applied Science & Technology, the School of Arts & Sciences and the School of Nursing.

Both ceremonies are ticketed events.

Commencement addresses will be given by North Carolina Poet Laureate Dr. Joseph Bathanti, who served as a Visiting Artist at Anson Community College, a predecessor to SPCC, in the 1990s. In addition to his poetry, Bathanti is a novelist and professor of creative writing at Appalachian State University. He also chronicled the history of artists bringing their disciplines to rural areas in his book They Changed the State: The Legacy of North Carolina’s Visiting Artists, 1971-95.
