Lillie Bennett Nursing Center sold to SanStone Health & Rehabilitation

Carolinas HealthCare System, parent company of Anson Community Hospital and Lillie Bennett Nursing Center in Wadesboro, has announced the sale of the nursing center to SanStone Health and Rehabilitation.

A statement from Carolinas HealthCare System stated that the company “is pleased to announce that after a thoughtful review process, including significant participation from the community, the Anson Community Hospital Board of Directors has selected a superior skilled nursing care provider to purchase and continue services at Lillie Bennett Nursing Center.”

SanStone Health and Rehabilitation is based in Arden, with additional locations in Winston-Salem, Sanford, Fletcher, Hendersonville, Asheville and Mars Hill. According to its website, the company is “committed to providing professional and compassionate environments where people can live and rehabilitate. With this as our foundation, we offer purpose-filled employment opportunities in friendly settings across North Carolina.”

The hospital’s board of directors approved the sale on Tuesday, hospital president Dr. Fred Thompson said.

“Our goal in this process was to find a like-minded organization whose unique focus on skilled nursing care would ensure the legacy of Lillie Bennett Nursing Center for decades to come,” the statement from Carolinas HealthCare System stated. “We’ve found that in SanStone Health and Rehabilitation. Their commitment to quality, customer service, community benefit and employee satisfaction gives us every reason to feel positive about the future of skilled nursing care for Anson County residents.”

SanStone Health and Rehabilitation will keep all of the current employees at Lillie Bennett, and “make a significant investment in capital improvements to the facility, including a new kitchen and laundry facility.” For more information about SanStone Health and Rehabilitation, visit their website at
