For the second time in 2014, Anson County is readying for a winter storm.
The National Weather Service in Raleigh issued a Winter Storm Warning at 7:13 a.m. Tuesday, and light snow began falling in Anson County around 8 a.m.
Light snow and freezing rain are expected Tuesday, with snow accumulation half an inch to 2 inches. A wintry mix — including more widespread snow, sleet and freezing rain — is expected Wednesday during the day and into Thursday morning.
Residents are asked to take precautions when traveling Tuesday afternoon through Thursday. “Travel Wednesday into Thursday will likely be dangerous,” the advisory from the National Weather Service states.
Ice accumulations may also cause power outages, especially on Wednesday.
Anson County’s elementary schools were dismissed at 10 a.m. Tuesday, with middle and high schools dismissing at 10:30 a.m. As of press time, decisions hadn’t been made for Wednesday and Thursday’s school days.
