For the final time, the Anson County Chamber of Commerce hosted its Discover Anson fall bike ride on Saturday.
More than 40 bicyclists turned out for the eighth annual event at Ansonville Elementary School. This will be the fall bike ride’s final year, Chamber executive director Lynn Edwards said, so that a two-day event can be planned for the spring of 2015. Edwards said the Chamber hopes to have two to three rides to choose from, as well as events for the entire family.
As for this year’s event, only about a dozen riders pre-registered, Edwards said, but more than three times that number turned out for the ride Saturday morning. Cyclists could choose between 30-, 50- and 75-mile routes that took them through some of Ansonville and the surrounding area’s countryside.
“We have one rider from Germany who’s visiting his family and decided to ride today,” Edwards said. “That’s probably the farthest anyone’s ever come to participate in the ride.”
