Early voting will be held Oct. 17 from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Charles H. Riddle Staff Development Center, 320 Camden Road, Wadesboro. Election Day is Nov. 5 from 6:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m.
At its monthly meeting Friday, the Board of Elections voted to get help from the Wadesboro Police Department for security for the upcoming elections.
The board is still working on getting information for further security but will ask the police to do drive-bys to increase security. Although it will be held on school property, Anson County Schools Superintendent Michael Freeman said his staff will not require extra security, but left that decision to the board’s discretion.
Director Steve Adams said that the board is on schedule for early voting. The board voted unanimously that assistant director Geneva Timmons will also attend early voting to train for Adams’ position in case of emergency. The board will find someone else to staff the office while voting is going on.
The board also discussed getting those serving overseas or attending college out-of-town to vote and will use social media and other means to promote the use of absentee ballots.
The chief judges who serve in this election will have the chance to give their feedback to the board in person on Nov. 15. In addition to filling out feedback forms, the judges will talk with board members during lunch so the board may learn what areas can be improved for upcoming elections.
For his monthly report, Adams said that in September there were 49 new registrations, 15 death removals, two felony removals and no felony completed sentences or party changes. Of the cards the board has sent out for its voter roll cleanup, 11 were returned last month. A final notice will be sent to those 11 addresses before the voter is removed.
